Choreographed belt-buckle boogies aren’t in the cards for Jessica Simpson and Kenny Chesney. They never actually hooked up.

Three weeks after Tony Romo suddenly dumped the blond bombshell the day before her 29th birthday, the rumors are a-swirlin’.

Us Weekly is reporting that the 29-year-old footballer met 22-year-old Natalie Smith way back in February and has since been sending flirty texts back and forth. Star claims the rift started when Romo saw Jess chatting it up with Chesney earlier this month.

But according to the former Mr. Renée Zellweger, that’s not how it went down, and for one very important reason…

Bros before hos.

“Tony’s a friend, and I wouldn’t flirt with a buddy’s girlfriend,” Chesney told People. “If a girl and her boyfriend can’t go to someone’s house for a Fourth of July party and talk to the other guests without it turning into a big nightmare…then I feel really sorry for Jessica and Tony, who’re both really nice people.”

He also promises that Daisy Duke wasn’t being flirtatious—she was being sweet. (Is there a difference?)

Between the tales of infidelities, new romances and ring-wearing, this is beginning to sound all too familiar. Because this is a slippery slope, we now ask that you click your heels and repeat, “Please don’t let Jessica and Tony be the new Gosselins” three times.

“After Tony Romo callously dumped Jessica Simpson the night before her 29th birthday, he made sure his ex wouldn’t be able to get near his Dallas home.

The new issue of Us Weekly, on stands now, reports the Dallas Cowboys quarterback instructed security to keep Simpson out of his gated community.

A sign at the entrance reads: “RED ALERT!!! TONY ROMO HAS MADE SOME CHANGES TO HIS LIST OF PEOPLE ALLOWED IN….JESSICA IS NO LONGER ON THE LIST AND NOT APPROVED FOR ACCESS.

After the the couple — who began dating in November 2007 — called it quits earlier this month, a pal of Romo told Us: “It’s been a long time coming.”

Still, Cowboy teammates were surprised.

“I thought they would…tie the knot,” Terrell Owens, who slammed Simpson for being a “jinx,” told Ryan Seacrest.

Meanwhile, Simpson has been working out again with a personal trainer in L.A. (she famously packed on pounds right before splitting from John Mayer and Nick Lachey), and going on movie dates with her mom and girlfriends.”

The singer’s parents have been pushing her to go out and enjoy herself since her breakup from Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, People magazine reports.

But while she partied with some friends recently, Simpson may not be over her ex just yet.

“She feels she’s being judged by the world and opts to hide out at home,” a family friend revealed. “The family feels bad for Jessica. They worry for her a lot.”

It’s a role reversal for the older Simpson sister, whose sibling Ashlee seems to be happy with her life with husband Pete Wentz, and their baby boy Bronx Mowgli.

“The family used to have such faith in [Jessica] and they worried about Ashlee,” the family friend says. “Now they are fully confident in Ashlee’s choices and they worry most of their days about Jessica. It seems she just can’t catch a break.”

Before Romo reportedly ended things with Simpson the night before she turned 29, she suffered another rough patch concerning her fluctuating weight.

Simpson was slammed for wearing mom jeans onstage during a January concert, and was splashed across the covers of magazines for looking a chunky in them.

Despite the heartbreak, the singer isn’t diving into a tub of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream. The singer, who is set to shoot her new VH1 reality show “The Price of Beauty,” was spotted leaving a personal training session yesterday in West Hollywood.

However since the split with Romo, Simpson’s been down, according to the family friend.

“She takes breakups really badly,” another Simpson source said. “She has a hard time letting go.”

Tony Romo broke up with Jessica Simpson on Thursday, the night before her 29th birthday, a source close to the pop star tells PEOPLE.

“She is heartbroken,” says the source. “She loves Tony. But it’s been difficult lately. He’s busy with his career and she’s getting ready to shoot her show (The Price of Beauty). They decided to part ways.”

The Dallas Cowboys quarterback fueled breakup rumors when he showed up with about 14 friends at the Hollywood hotspot MyHouse on Friday night without the birthday girl, a source tells PEOPLE.

“He had quite a few girls stop by his dance floor table,” says an onlooker. “Romo was sipping Grey Goose and having a fun time with the boys.”

Simpson’s rep had no comment. Romo’s rep could not be reached for comment.

Simpson had planned to throw a Barbie and Ken-themed party for her birthday, but it fell through, according to a message she wrote on her Twitter page Saturday. “Barbie party didn’t happen, but I turned 29 and feel like I am on top of the world yelling I LOVE GETTING OLDER!” she wrote.

On Saturday night, Romo spoke to a group of well-heeled sports memorabilia collectors at the Los Angeles Sports Museum of Los Angeles. He “blushed” when a woman asked about his relationship with Jessica Simpson, according to the L.A. Daily News.

The source close to Simpson is sad that the longtime couple broke up. “They were good together for along time,” says the source. “But I guess it wasn’t meant to be.”

Although Simpson’s heart might be broken, she seems to remain hopeful about love. On Sunday, she Tweeted, “Everyone needs to know that hope floats … grab the strings and pull it back to you.” Three hours later, she wrote, “Falling asleep with my mom and the dogs. Please lord give all of my beautiful fans, friends, enemies, and family rest. Bring all of us peace.”
