Jessica Simpson recently celebrated the impending birth of her son, but last weekend she turned the focus to her daughter, Maxwell.

On Sunday afternoon, Simpson, 31, and her fiancé Eric Johnson, 33, threw a carnival-themed birthday party for their little girl, who will turn one on May 1. Fifty friends and family members flocked to the couple’s Hidden Hills, Calif., home for the backyard party, which boasted face-painting and a children’s band, along with toddler-friendly foods, including hot dogs and grilled cheeses.

“It was tons of fun for kids and grownups,” says an insider. “[And] the food was great.”

Meanwhile, Simpson, who has said that this pregnancy hasn’t been easy (“I just feel awful,” she told Jimmy Kimmel last month), got decked out for the occasion, wearing a dress and wedges. Adds the source: “She had a great time.”

Jessica Simpson is reportedly planning to take a break from having babies after she gives birth to her second child.

Jessica and her husband Eric already have a daughter Maxwell, who was born last May, and are now expecting a little boy.

But the singer was surprised when she fell pregnant only seven months after giving birth to her daughter Maxwell, and has allegedly decided that after her next child, she’ll take time out from making babies.

“Jessica and Eric did not plan to get pregnant again so quickly!” a source revealed to Ok magazine.com. “They were delighted about it when it finally sunk in, but kind of shell shocked!

“Jessica’s going to be a lot more careful after her son is born and has vowed to take a serious breather from anymore baby making for at least two or three years.”

The 32-year-old and her fiance were forced to cancel their wedding plans when Jess realised she was expecting again, and sources claim that she has now decided to make the wedding a priority when her baby boy, who she “can’t wait to dress in leather jackets”, arrives.

“Both Jessica and Eric are very hands on parents and they want to be able to enjoy their time with Maxwell and her brother, when he arrives, as much as possible, in addition to working on their relationship together,” the source confessed.

“Jessica’s priority after the baby arrives is going to be finalising the details of her and Eric’s wedding and then she is going to concentrate on their marriage and on their family.”

The insider also added: “She’s not going to get caught out a third time – two children is more than enough for her to deal with for the next few years!”
